HOUTSIPLOU

One of my first foodie missions when I started the blog was to track down the best burger spots in Brussels. After trying several burger places in town, like Cool BunLes Super Filles du Tram and Marcel Burger Bar, it was time to put to the test the burgers of Houtsiplou, a cozy restaurant with a large terrace in the centre of Brussels.

What does Houtsiplou mean you may ask? Well, it’s the name of an imaginary place in Belgium that the owners came up with. I bet it’s full of all the great things Belgium is known for, inluding chocolate, beer, waffles, frites and Art Nouveau. But I digress… Although Houtsiplou is primarily known for its delicious burgers, you can also find traditional Belgian dishes, such as mussels with fries, meatloaf and stoemp. Cute detail: the mural inside the restaurant, which depicts the history of Belgium in a colorful, funny way.

Burgers at Houtsiplou are substantial, as messy as they need to be and come with crispy fries. I had the “Houtsiplou” with gorgonzola cheese and had a few bites of my dinner companion’s “Classico” – both delicious. Definitely one of the best burgers in Brussels, but the best one…? It remains to be seen!
