COOL BUN
I recently shared on my Facebook page a list of my favourite spots for a juicy burger in Brussels and quickly realized that burgers are a real conversation starter! It seems that people are very opinionated about the best burger places which vary on their criteria but this can only be good news as it means there are plenty of options for us foodies. Truth is I’ve tried quite a lot of spots, some actually made it on the blog while some didn’t, but despite the competition Cool Bun remains one of my absolute favourites!
This place started the so-called “Burger Revolution”, a term typically used amongst Brussels foodies to describe the period where burger joints kept popping up like mushrooms in the EU capital. The food here is made with organic and locally-sourced ingredients, which makes me feel less guilty about indulging in a burger! All sauces are homemade and the variety of burgers is quite something. One thing’s for sure: it’s impossible to leave hungry, even if you’re a vegetarian. Personally, I really like their chicken burger (you can see why from the pictures below!) and onion rings, which are coated in a rich, crispy batter and come in a very generous portion. Having said that, I am not a huge fan of the fries. See, Brussels is spoiling us with choice so I prefer the crispy frites I get at my favourite fritkot rather than “normal” fries as a side.
Price-wise Cool Bun may seem on the expensive side but I find prices adequate to the quality of meat. In case you decide to give it a try, there are two branches to choose from: one in Saint-Gilles just off Place Stephanie and a second one in the EU quarter close to Place Schuman. I have actually been in both and prefer their Saint-Gilles restaurant as it is more spacious and a bit calmer.
