THE RESTAURANT
In a city with so many great options when it comes to dining, it’s a bold move to call yourself The Restaurant. Then again, you really should do so if you stand out and that’s the case with The Restaurant in Brussels.
The very first time I visited The Restaurant in The Hotel was for a Brussels Food Friends event a while ago. By the way, I still remember how amazing the desserts that they prepared for us were. Fast forward a few years later, I was back to have dinner at The Restaurant with my partner in crime and couldn’t wait to see what they had in store for us.
Pierre Balthazar, the chef at The Restaurant, creates a weekly menu focusing on fresh, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. I actually love the fact that the menu changes regularly as this means that the dishes are more creative and there’s always something new to try. After a quick browse through the menu while enjoying our amuse bouches, we made our selection: potato gnocchi with black truffle & beef tartare with candied egg and black truffle for starters – cod fillet with cauliflower mousse and veal jus with almonds & beef fillet with candied red onion, goat cheese croquette and chestnut polenta for mains. Dish after dish we were delighted by how tasteful and beautifully presented our food was. The portion sizes were generous, so by the time we had dessert (which was almost too pretty to eat btw!) we were positively full.
It’s been a while since the last time I enjoyed a meal at a hotel that much. On our visit the staff were very helpful in making recommendations and proposing different wine that complemented our food, all our dishes arrived promptly and everything we had was delicious. A bit of music in the background would be perfect but other than that, the atmosphere was classy yet relaxed, which is exactly what I like in this type of restaurants. Not to mention that our table was overlooking the beautiful Egmont Park that happens to be one of my favourite parks in Brussels.
A big thanks to The Hotel for treating us to a wonderful meal. We had a great time, really enjoyed the food and are already looking forward to the next time! If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or just fancy having good food in a chic setting, The Restaurant will not disappoint.
