LES TROUVAILLES DE LOUISE
In a city with seemingly unlimited options for brunch, be it healthy, decadent or even children-friendly, it’s always nice to discover hidden neighbourhood gems that are just as good. Les Trouvailles de Louise, a successful mix between a tea room and a deli, was one of those great discoveries in Schaerbeek.
As we walked in we were welcomed by the heavenly smell of freshly baked marble cake and took our seats in one of the few wooden tables. The space, which is divided in two rooms, is super cozy; so much so that you feel as if you are having a meal at a friend’s place. Foodie products from all over the world are displayed on the cupboards: homemade jams, exotic spices, virgin olive oil, shortbread biscuits, bio juices – it’s impossible not to get tempted by all those treats and their pretty packaging! And speaking of temptation, the menu at Les Trouvailles de Louise makes sure you won’t leave with an empty stomach as there are plenty of options to satisfy all appetites, including sandwiches, quiches, fresh salads, homemade cakes and of course several brunch formulas.
During our visit my partner in crime and I had two different brunch menus: a full English breakfast for him and one of the suggested combos for me which included coffee, tea or hot chocolate; a bio juice; jam; butter; a cheese plate, eggs and bacon and a basket full of crispy croissants and bread. The food was tasty and excellent value for money considering the very generous servings; not to mention that the lovely ladies who run the place asked us more than once whether we wanted some complimentary bread – a very rare phenomenon in Brussels, may I add. We both wished we had more room to also try their pancakes and scones but this is something for our next visit, as we will definitely be back!
If you’re looking for a homey and reasonably priced meal in a calm environment, Les Trouvailles de Louise is an excellent choice. As they also announced on Facebook, there’s an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet every first Sunday of the month (15€/person), which is another good reason to pay them a visit!
