PRIMA PLORA

Greece is one of my favourite countries in the whole wide world. And how can one not love Greece? The rich history, sunlight, blue sea, beautiful islands, amazing food and kind people make it a really special place. One of the most well-known islands in Greece is Crete where I was lucky to spot two amazing restaurants: Avli and Prima Plora.

Prima Plora is one of the most romantic restaurants I’ve ever been to. Located right next to the sea with great views over the Fortezza, the Venetian-era citadel of Rethymno, and nearby an old Venetian water pump, it’s a great place to watch the sunset with the sound of crashing waves against the rocks. No wonder why the have named “Bow and Stern” (Πρíμα Πλώρα in Greek). The unique setting is completed with fresh flowers and dim lighting – pure bliss!

The food is equally impressive. The dishes on offer are not what you can find at your typical taverna but rather modern Greek food. The seafood is of high quality and top-quality seafood and all vegetables are organic. If you go, do order the fava and octopus salad as well as the “kritharoto”, a risotto-like dish with prawns and Greek pasta instead of Arborio rice.

A meal at Prima Plora is one of those experiences that stay with you, so if you’re lucky enough to travel to Rethymno, make sure to try it. Just one word of advice: make sure to book a table in advance for dinner.
