MONMOUTH COFFEE

When a coffee shop that is frequently referred to as one of the best spots in coffee for a cuppa happens to be just a stone’s throw from one of your favourite food markets in London, you know it’s a happy coincidence you can’t ignore. So I braved the queues and headed to Monmouth Coffee Company for my caffeine shot. Well, it seems the hype is true: it is one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had. 

As I stepped in, I was dazzled by the aroma of freshly ground coffee. It’s similar to my first experience at Cafe Kitsune in Paris and one that I still have very vivid memories of. A large booth where attentive baristas work their magic dominates the room while the rest of the space is filled with communal tables and a yummy buffet with sweet treats to accompany your coffee. The decor has a rustic feel which makes the whole place welcoming and cozy. Enjoying a good cup of coffee at ease is the best thing – if you can ignore the crowds of course, that is.

Monmouth Coffee Company uses sustainable ingredients and offers a large variety of coffee from single farms and cooperatives, which you can either buy as whole beans or ground according to your taste (plus points for the very nice packaging!). I had an Americano to go which was perfect: strong, full-flavoured with a lovely sweetness at the end. Monmouth Coffee, you have a new regular! Now all I wish is for you to open a store in Brussels – you would definitely figure on top of my “Best Coffee Spots in Brussels” list.
