CAFE KITSUNE
Paris is full of cute Parisian bistros where one can enjoy a cup of coffee and maybe a light bite too. Sometimes however what you need is a cuppa on the go while running errands or exploring the city. Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki, the clever chaps behind the hip fashion, music and lifestyle brand Maison Kitsuné, spotted the gap in the Parisian market for take-out coffee and opened Cafe Kitsuné in early 2014.
Nestled in the Galerie de Montpensier at one of the most beautiful gardens in Paris just a stone’s throw from the Louvre, Cafe Kitsuné couldn’t have found a better home. Formerly a fabric store, this place is tiny with just a few stools and not other seating space. Don’t be discouraged though; even on a chilly winter day, you’ll be tempted to grab a cup of coffee and wander around the peaceful gardens of the Palais Royal. True to the aesthetic of Maison Kitsuné, the cafe is minimalistic but somehow complements perfectly its picturesque surroundings.
Behind the marble counter skilful baristas prepare the orders and are happy to advise you with a smile. The menu may be short in variety but not in quality. Coffee is of Brazilian origin and roasted in the London-based Workshop Coffee Co. and there’s also available a small selection of tea by Les thés de Constance and healthy juices. I can never resist a slice of gluten-free cake from Noglu but if you pop by during the summer make sure to try their ice cream that comes from Martine Lambert. The matcha green tea latte is also amazing – perhaps a little creamier than usual but I really love it that way.
Cafe Kistune has a new outpost in the 3rd arrondissement at Filles du Calvaire and while I fancy its funky design, I remain faithful to this branch because of its lovely location. I know I keep gushing about all things Parisian but trust me, this garden is even more beautiful than Place des Vosges! If you’re looking for a great coffee spot with an international vibe, look no further.
