AMI
When describing a restaurant, the words “healthy” and “vegetarian” typically put the non-converted off. And sometimes rightfully so, as this means food is boring and overpriced. Well, not in this case! AMI is a restaurant that will steal your heart for many different reasons whether you’re a vegetarian or not.
First of all, its location – just a stone’s throw from Place Flagey and a quite a few other Brussels favourite spots, like Le Petit Canon, Ptyx, Umamido and last but not least, Cafe Belga. Then, its modern design that creates a playful and informal atmosphere. The space is bright, there’s a blackboard featuring all the dishes and set menus on offer and a cute little terrace in the back for sunny days. But most importantly, it’s the food! Here you’ll find mini burgers, sandwiches, fresh salads, soups – all vegetarian, comforting and delicious. I couldn’t help ordering the star of the menu, namely the vegetarian burgers that come in different combinations. Make sure to order at least two as they are on the small side and do try the “Forestier” (veggie patty, Comté cheese, mushrooms and spinach) – you’ll surely come back for more.
The sweet options are just the icing on the cake: Forcado‘s pasteis de nata, i.e. Portuguese custard tarts to die for! I told you it’s hard not to love this spot! AMI is definitely one of the best spots for a healthy lunch in Brussels and has quickly become a favourite amongst locals. You may have to wait a bit before you get seated during lunch time, but you won’t be disappointed.
