AM SWEET

I think I have passed by AM Sweet quite a few times before finally entering only to realize that it’s a true gem for tea and pastry lovers. Just a short walk away from La Bourse, the Brussels Stock Exchange, this cozy little shop sells an enticing array of fine tea and sweets, including Mariage Frères tea, and Belgian treats such as Laurent Gerbaud chocolates, Maison Dandoy biscuits and real cuberdons, which you can either take away or enjoy “sur place” at their charming tea room.

AM Sweet is clearly a space made with lots of love: the owner Anne-Marie used to work at a nearby chocolate shop until she decided to follow her dream and create her own place together with her husband Gilbert. 14 years later, AM Sweet is a one of the best tea rooms in Brussels and an oasis of calmness in the busy city centre. Spiralling over two floors, AM Sweet feels like a Parisian apartment with its cozy seating rooms decorated with antique wooden tables, framed watercolours and French literature books. Nowadays I always stop here after a bit of shopping in the trendy Rue Dansaert or when I really want to treat myself to a relaxing breakfast with my book and a warm cup of tea.

Last but not least, one piece of advice: make sure to arrive promptly to get a table. Oh, and don’t forget to greet Cézanne, the sweet dog of the premises who’s usually taking a nap between the tables on the ground floor!
