LE TYPOGRAPHE
A couple of weeks ago I was heading to a great lunch spot I was keen on trying (more on that really soon!) when I came across Le Typographe, a real gem in Chatelain. Now, I may mainly talk about food and travelling here on the blog but am also fond of a few other things, including pretty stationery. If you’re anything like me, keep reading – you’re going to love this one!
Standing between chic boutiques and beautiful old town houses, Le Typographe is a letterpress studio set up by Cédric Chauvelot, a Frenchman who moved to Brussels after studying Fine Arts in his homeland. Passionate about typography and eager to create his own business, he started small by printing business cards. A short while later he expanded into creating his own stationery, so one can find paper supplies, office accessories, greeting cards and invitations. These days Cédric has clients from around the world, produces new goodies throughout the year and – the best part – makes customized products too. I would actually love to have my very own notepad for the blog; come to think of it, I need to place an order soon!
What I love about Le Typographe is the combination between old and new: while the end products are quite modern and colorful, the printing techniques used, i.e. mobile leaden and wooden characters, are traditional. The process may take longer but guarantees top quality craftsmanship. This is what makes Le Typographe an atelier rather than a store; each creation has a lot of handwork put in and is a unique creation.
If you’re keen on paper goods or are looking for a unique gift, check out Le Typographe. Take the time to browse through the different collections and if you get hungry, pass by Marcel Burger Bar or La Fabrique that are just a stone’s throw away.
