LA FABRIQUE
As a person whose favourite meal is brunch, I am very keen on trying different spots both in Brussels and beyond. La Fabrique was one of those places I’ve been meaning to try for a long time as everyone was raving about how good it was. Turns out, they were right. It’s definitely one of the best brunch spots in Brussels!
La Fabrique is located in Chatelain, where the famous farmers’ market takes place on Wednesdays. There’s a sunny terrace for a meal al fresco while the interior is warm and welcoming with cute details all over, like an Orla Kiely-inspired wallpaper, fresh flowers, vintage mismatched plates and modern Scandinavian furniture. Elodie Michiels, the lovely owner of La Fabrique who invited me to taste the brunch, explained to me how she handpicked one by one all items in the restaurant from flea markets and even brought in a few which belonged to her grandomother – a personal touch that I really loved.
Now let’s talk about the food, shall we? The array of sweet and savoury treats on offer are mind-blowing (you all seemed to agree on Instagram). It’s a good thing that brunch comprises an all-you-can-eat buffet which means you can fill your plate as many times as your tummy can handle (or even a bit more in my case!). There are different kinds of bread, jams and spreads, cheese and charcuterie boards, homemade granola, yoghurt and milk, many salads that contain pretty much all seasonal vegetables and two warm dishes in case you’re more into lunch. And we’re not done yet with the savoury section of the buffet. It wouldn’t be brunch without eggs after all, right? There’s a separate station where you can get an omellette or a crepe prepared exactly the way you like it. Now on to the sweets buffet: Imagine different kinds of deserts that will satisfy your sweet tooth whether you prefer chocolate or fruit-based cakes. And knowing that everything is homemade (apart from the bread which is sourced from La Fleur du Pain), makes the food taste yummier.
Price-wise brunch at La Fabrique is not the cheapest out there at 25€ (including still water but without drinks) but believe me, it is worth every cent (and calorie!). Just make sure to arrive hungry and book a table in advance. On Sunday there are two slots (around 11:00-13:00 / 13:00-15:00) but Saturdays are calmer. During the week La Fabrique serves breakfast and lunch, so there are many reasons to come back – I know I will!
