LA SALLE A MANGER
La salle à manger is my all-time favourite Sunday brunch spot in Paris, especially on a sunny day. It ticks all my boxes: delicious food, good value for money and the greatest terrace in the famous Rue Mouffetard and its foodie shops!
I always sit on the sunny pavement terrace right opposite the beautiful Saint-Médard church, which dates back to the 11th century. The terrace is bathing in sunshine until late in the afternoon, but if you come a bit earlier in the morning you get a table without waiting too long (yes, the place is popular among the locals) and get to enjoy a lovely group of Parisian street artists dancing to Édith Piaf. I always feel I’m somehow in a French movie!
Now, about the food: I always enjoy a very long lazy Sunday meal with friends, so my go-to is THE brunch combo, which includes a basket of bread, pains au chocolat and croissants, an assortment of homemade spreads (Nutella, white chocolate and my favourite apricot rosemary jam), fresh orange juice, a soda drink, tea, hot chocolate or coffee (did I mention the free refills?) a bowl of yoghurt and fresh fruits, scrambled eggs and a green salad with foie gras or salmon tartines (i.e. open sandwiches). All this for 22€. If you’re not as greedy as I am, you can always go for the smaller combo at 12,50€ which is more than enough for one person too. All in all, the perfect terrace for the perfect brunch for these perfect sunny Parisian days!
