FFACT – HOW TO BECOME A PARISIAN IN ONE HOUR

When I first read on Twitter about the of a new series of events in Brussels combining Fun Food and Acting, I was intrigued. After a quick look at the FFAct website I knew this was something I would definitely like to try. And then… voilà – an invitation arrived right in my email box! So there we were, my partner in crime and I, Tuesday evening at the Théâtre de la Toison d’Or ready to experience our very first Fun Food and Acting evening, which included dinner and Olivier Giraud’s famous show “How to become Parisian in one hour”.

The concept: Once per month on a Tuesday the Théâtre de la Toison d’Or organises events that combine good food and entertainment ranging from music shows to plays and cooking classes. All shows take place in English and are primarily aimed at expats, but last Tuesday I did spot quite a few locals too!

The food: Our evening started with a lovely dinner at theatre’s restaurant (open as from 19.00), which overlooks the bar area. Despite its small size, the space was beautifully lit and decorated. For the record, purple happens to be my favourite colour, so I was immediately sold! A special menu for the evening was prepared by Café Georgette. We both started with what proved to be our least favourite dish: carpaccio of smoked duck accompanied by avocado and fennel salad with hazelnuts and raspberry vinaigrette. What we particularly enjoyed though was our main courses. My friend had the sea bass filet with mashed potatoes and tomato confit while I went for the a Thai-inspired version of the steak tartare which came with a couple of mouthwatering mini veggie samosas. Both dishes were delightful – the perfect ending to the first part of our evening!

The show: After finishing our meal, it was showtime! Olivier Giraud’s stand up comedy “How to become a Parisian in one hour” had us laughing non-stop throughout the show. Olivier offered us a crash course on how Parisians behave on different occasions and portrayed in a hilarious and slightly exaggerated way all stereotypes linked with them. Needless to say, it was politically incorrect and oh so very funny! I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you, so I won’t reveal more. In case you’re curious though, have a look at this preview video. See? I told you it was brilliant!

So, now you know – Wednesdays are for the Chatelain marketThursdays are for Place Lux and Tuesdays are for FFAct! A big thanks to all the FFAct team, and especially the lovely Joy Jouret, for an incredibly fun evening – I’ll be back soon!
