NOORDZEE – MER DU NORD
Noordzee – Mer du Nord is a foodie spot that both locals and visitors love. Located in Sainte Catherine, one of the most popular meeting points in Brussels, Noordzee – Mer du Nord is a fish bar famous for serving some of the best seafood in town.
The whole concept has become a Brussels tradition over the years. Place your order at the steel counter, wait for a few minutes (you can always distract yourself with the divine smell of freshly cooked seafood while you’re at it) and once you hear your name, grab a table across the street and enjoy your meal! The food is divine – simply cooked, tapas-style dishes made on the spot that you can wash down with a glass of white wine or champagne. There’s plenty of choice: fish soup, sea snails, fish à la plancha, oysters, scallops, razor clams and the list goes on. But whatever you go for, make sure you try the very Belgian shrimp croquettes (croquettes aux crevettes) which are a-ma-zing!
There are a few more things you need to know before you visit Noordzee – Mer du Nord. First, there’s only outdoor seating, or rather standing, even on cold days. No worries though, the food and wine will keep you warm. Secondly, this is a popular spot so be prepared to brave the crowds, especially during lunch, brunch or on sunny days. Last but not least, Noordzee – Mer du Nord has opened another branch on Rue Du Luxembourg (exact location here) which is perfect for after work drinks. So there you go, try it and let me know what you think!
