MELLOW
Mellow was a discovery I made thanks to a tip from a lovely reader who urged me on Twitter to try this spot asap! Being a sucker for ice cream, especially on a warm day, I couldn’t wait to taste a healthier – and as it turns out equally tasty – alternative: frozen yoghurt.
Before my visit I had spotted the boule, i.e. the cute pink ice cream truck of Mellow, at the Brussels Food Truck Festival but since I already had my fair share of street food that weekend, I decided to pop by another time. I really shouldn’t have as I actually loved Mellow’s froyo! Two years after the success of their food truck Noémie and Margaux, the Mellow sisters, opened their store in Place de Londres. The space is small but super cute with lots of color and pretty packaging, an Instagramer’s dream basically! I also loved how Noémie and Margaux kept some of the original details of the store which used to be a pharmacy many years ago.
The concept is quite straightforward: you pick the type of frozen yoghurt you want (natural or soy) and the toppings of your liking. Luckily, there’s a great variety in terms of options, ranging from fresh fruits to sauces, speculoos, brownies, caramel and other treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. The texture of the froyo was fluffy and not overly sweet. Apart from frozen yoghurt, there are additional options like smoothies, fresh juices, Or coffee and brookies (a tempting combination of a cookie and a brownie) – all made from the Mellow team. For the moment they only do takeaway but there is a small terrace with a couple of benches right outside in case you want to lay back and enjoy.
If you can’t spot the pink boule and need your froyo fix, make sure to pop by Mellow. The Mellow sisters will welcome you with a smile and help you choose the most delicious combinations. Feel free to tag me in your photos with the #seemybrussels hashtag and let me know which are your favourite toppings; I can always use some inspiration for my next visit!
