LE BAR DU MATIN
There are a few greater things than ice cream at the park or al fresco drinks with friends on a sunny day in Brussels – especially when the location happens to have one of the best terraces in town to soak up the sun and relax. Le Bar du Matin is a locals’ favourite for many different reasons, ranging from the modern decor to the music events it hosts from time to time.
This trendy cafe in the border of Saint-Gilles and Forest is yet another baby of the Fred Nicolay family, which includes among others Café Belga, Potemkine, Flamingo and La Belle Equipe. The principle is more or less the same: great location, service at the bar and light snacks to much on in case you’re hungry. This and the long opening hours make Le Bar du Matin great for multiple occasions: morning coffee, quick lunch for a mid-day pause, or fun drinks later in the day. Yep, don’t be fooled by the name, this spot is also in its element in the evening!
Come winter, everybody heads inside. Organized around the central wooden bar, the space is bright and airy thanks to the surrounding big glass windows. During the day it’s typically calm – there’s free wifi, so you’ll spot a few laptops and their busy owners working. At night the bar is bustling, cocktails are flowing and there’s (sometimes loud) music in the background. In typical Brussels fashion, expect an unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere, so be prepared to have fun and maybe even dance a little bit!
