LA PATISSERIE DES REVES

Paris has infinite options when it comes to gorgeous pastry shops. There is literally a great spot to satisfy even the most demanding of foodies in every other corner. If someone would ask me though to pin down some of my favourite pastry shops in the City of Light, La Patisserie des Reves would definitely make it in the top ten (yep, there are that many!).

Created by a very talented duo, namely award-winning pastry chef Philippe Conticini and visionary hotelier Thierry Teyssier, La Patisserie des Reves is true to its name: “the pastry shop of dreams”. I mean, who wouldn’t love mouthwatering desserts which are almost too pretty to eat? La Patisserie des Reves has a branch in the 7th arrondissement close to Le Bon Marché and a tea room in the 16th with outdoor seating (where the pictures were taken) that opens during weekends. There you can enjoy your pastry together with some tea in one of the few tables available in a space at the back of the store overlooking a small garden.

The decor at La Patisserie des Reves is probably the cutest concept of modern design I’ve ever seen in a  retail space. Classic French desserts are displayed in sleek glass domes suspending from the ceiling while the walls are filled with mouthwatering vienoisseries and sweet gifts in pretty packaging – a true delight for the eyes as well as for the palate! When it comes to choosing a dessert, all options are equally delicious but I do have my favourites: the Paris-Brest, made from a circle of individual choux pastry rounds filled with runny praline cream; the chocolate éclair wrapped in a sheet of rich chocolate; the apple tarte tatin based on a recipe of Conticini’s mother who also happened to be a renowned pastry chef herself, and last but not least, the Saint Honoré (voted as the best in Paris), a puff-pastry delight filled with whipped cream and caramelised sugar. Other than that, nothing beats Conticini’s puffy brioches with homemade jam for breakfast. Yum!

If you’re a Londoner or plan to visit London soon, I’ve got great news for you: La Patisserie des Reves has opened a branch in Marylebone, not too far from La Fromagerie and Daunt Books. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
