KOPAPA

Last week I found myself  in Covent Garden early in the morning craving a good breakfast. I didn’t have to think twice… Kopapa it was! This place is one of my favourite spots in London because it combines an informal and inviting atmosphere with excellent food by Peter Gordon’s team.

Kopapa stands for gathering in Māori. And even if the name doesn’t tell you much, then what about this one: The Providores. Peter Gordon, the man behind both restaurants and godfather of fusion cuisine, is working his magic! Great coffee from Monmouth Coffee Company, well presented dishes with a twist, kind service, convenient location (especially if you are a theatre lover) and very reasonable prices. If you go for breakfast, like I did, try the Turkish eggs with whipped yoghurt and hot chilli butter, the famous dish also served at The Providores in Marylebone, and the porridge with rhubarb compote, toasted coconut and ginger spiced mascarpone; can’t think of a better way to start the day!

Address: 32-34 Monmouth Street, London WC2H 9HA, UK

*UPDATE: Unfortunately, Kopapa is now closed.*
