HENRI & AGNES
If you follow this blog for a while, you must know by now that brunch is my favourite weekend ritual. I honestly can’t think of a better way to kick off the weekend than a rich, lazy meal (aside from exercise that is!). A few weekends ago I finally got to try the Sunday brunch at Henri et Agnes, a bio canteen located at the ground floor of Chelton Hotel close to Place Schuman in Brussels.
Brunch at Henri et Agnes takes place every Sunday and booking is advisable as it gets full in no time. The brunch lasts from 11:00 until 15:00, so you can choose which serving slot you prefer (11h-13h or 13h-15h). Truth is, I arrived at Henri et Agnes with high expectations. Not only had I read very good reviews about their healthy lunch combos which change daily (soup / hot pot of the day and seasonal warm veggies with goat cheese or meat), but also this restaurant uses organic locally-sourced ingredients, which makes it a perfectly healthy option.
Brunch comprises an all-you-can eat buffet, fresh juice and a warm beverage. The price is indeed a bit steep but good quality is never cheap, right? My sweet tooth was utterly satisfied: almond, chocolate and pistachio financiers; brioche, cramique, pain à la grecque and speculoos spread from Maison Dandoy, Greek yoghurt, the most delicious jam I’ve ever had from Callas Confitures, homemade granola, brie with walnuts and raisins. The savoury section was more limited but still colourful and delicious: bread, Serrano ham, wild roquet salad, honey goat cheese topped with the prettiest edible flowers and warm carrot salad that was later replaced by farro salad with tomato and caramelised onions.
The interior of Henri et Agnes is very charming. The whole space is covered with recycled wooden pallets which makes it cozy and warm just like a modern chalet. The main dining area gets plenty of natural light from the atrium rooftop and highlights all the pretty little details: blue lamps, cacti pots, lovely ceramics and a long communal table where everybody gets together to enjoy hearty food. So go ahead, book your spots and let me know what you think!
