GALLERAKI
One of the most beautiful and romantic spots in Mykonos is Little Venice (or Alefkandra as the locals call it) in Chora. Located by the sea, it looks like a postcard with its two-storey houses and their colorful balconies, the white narrow streets and nearby windmills. And believe me, I’m not exaggerating when I say that no visit to Mykonos is complete without a stop there!
My favourite place in Little Venice is no secret spot, quite the contrary. It’s been very popular amongst the Greeks for over 20 years and remains until today a nightlife landmark in the island. In the past the building used to be a gallery but in the early ’90s the owner, Damianos Gryparis, turned both floors into a bar, which was named Galleraki (little gallery in Greek).
Galleraki is open all day long, so you can either enjoy your morning coffee or pop by for a late night cocktail and some dancing. I personally prefer to go early in the morning to enjoy the views before the hoards of tourists arrive but if you go in the evening, make sure to order a “Katerinaki”, the famous cocktail of Galleraki whose recipe remains secret to date!
