DONA FLOR
One of my favourite weekend rituals is going to Place Sainte-Catherine, for fresh seafood at Noordzee followed by delicious pastries and coffee at Charli, a cute little bakery nearby. And then there are those days when I feel a little more festive and skip the latter to have cocktails at Dona Flor. After all, it’s always cocktail o’ clock somewhere!
Dona Flor is a quirky, little red truck serving some of the best mojitos in Brussels. It’s impossible to miss it – just go to Sainte-Catherine and you’ll see it parked on the square no matter the time or the weather. Don’t get discouraged by the fact that it’s a truck – I know it may seem a little sketchy but once you try the cocktails, you’ll keep coming back. That pretty much explains why there is often a line of people waiting patiently to order. Well, that and the fact that cocktails here cost only around 5€.
Apart from mojitos, they also do a few more drinks, like Cuba Libre (which brings back happy memories from my visit to Havana), Caipirinha and Ti’ punch. The atmosphere is already cool as the Sainte-Catherine square is always brimming with life, so the music from Dona Flor is just the icing on the cake. Even on the coldest days of winter, it’s a great spot to have a cocktail (or two!), socialize and maybe even dance a little bit! Probably not a smart cocktail bar like Hortense but still a really nice laid back alternative.
