APDM – AU PAYS DES MERVEILLES
Brussels has its own little foodie Wonderland. It has a lovely little garden terrace to hang out during sunny days, the best bagels in town and sumptuous cakes that are brought to you by friendly staff. Yeap, you guessed right; I’m talking about Au Pays Des Merveilles (or APDM as the locals call it) that has officially become one of my favourite brunch spots in Brussels ever since I tried it!
The bagels at APDM are fershly made, accompanied by a small salad and great value for money. First, you get to pick your type of bread (classic, sesame, poppy seeds, multigrain, onions, olives, spinach, corn, etc.) and then your filling. It’s almost impossible not to find something you fancy as there are way too many options, including some vegetarian ones. My favourite bagel for either brunch or lunch is the one with cheddar, scrambled eggs, grilled onions and watercress (as seen in the picture below)! I also love the fact that you can choose between different flavours of cream cheese; not to mention that you can go instead for a wrap, a baguette or no bagel at all and just have the filling of your choice with salad.
The large choice of delicious bagels is one reason to come here but definitely not the only one. I always tell myself to leave room for dessert (pancakes, cupcakes, apple pie, brownies, muffins, cookies … you name it!) but portions are quite filling, so I’ve never actually made it. Next time I’ll head straight to the sweet bagels (with peanut butter and marshmallows, cream cheese, honey, cinnamon, raisins, nuts and banana or nutella, banana and almonds) – they do sound pretty good, right?
