VANDAAG

Sometimes you discover little gems on your way to a completely different destination. As we were heading to the beautiful Hallerbos my partner in crime and I decided to stop and wander around the streets of Halle in the Flemish Brabant. After exploring the town for a little while, we started looking for a place to eat. See, normally I always have in mind a new spot I am keen on trying but this time I was totally unprepared. Luckily, I stumbled upon Vandaag, a very stylish café – restaurant serving delicious dishes, including the best boterham (i.e. tartine in French – basically, an open sandwich) I’ve ever had.

Apart from the food, I loved the interior and all its details. I’m actually still dreaming about the Pantone vase with the pink peonies – such a lovely touch! The service is extremely kind (they were more than happy to explain everything on the menu in English) and the prices more than reasonable. I had a cup of herbal tea and the carpaccio boterham while my partner in crime went for the tartare one – both rich in flavour and served with a fresh green salad.

Vandaag was a very happy discovery and a place I would definitely goo back. If you ever happen to be in the neighbourhood, make sure to try it for a light lunch or cup of coffee!
