EL TACO MOBIL
I always liked Mexican food but after my recent trip to Tulum and Cancun, I can safely say I’m addicted to it! Brussels was lacking and waiting impatiently for an authentic spot for Mexican food – that pretty much explains why I have received quite a few emails asking for suggestions. Well, I finally spotted a great place and after teasing you on Instagram, it’s time to tell you all about El Taco Mobil!
This cute food truck has joined the street food scene in Brussels which is actually growing. Although I need to tick quite a few off my list, I already have my favourite food trucks: Il Sapore Della Dolce Vitta for Italian piadina, Nanouk for artisanal ice cream and Vroom Vroom Coffee for my daily dose of caffeine. The latest addition, El Taco Mobil is run by a Belgo-Mexican couple who prepare delicious Mexican food made with organic products and tons of amor!
My partner in crime and I popped for Sunday lunch at the backyard of Les Ateliers des Tanneurs where El Taco Mobil is parked (at the end of the craft market). The setting was colorful, the smell of sizzling meat tempting to say the least and so, we relived happy memories from Mexico. The tacos on offer were al pastor (organic roasted pork served with grilled pineapple, coriander, radish, salsa verde and tomatillo) and a vegetarian option (organic veggies cooked in chipotle salsa, refried beans, guacamole, radish and coriander sour cream). Needless to say one round was not enough: tacos are gluten free while the meat and vegetables were really tender and full of flavour. We happily washed down our food with strawberry horchata (a creamy, sweet beverage from rice which is perfect of you have a sweet tooth) and a few jarritos, i.e. Mexican soft drinks. It was a proper Sunday foodie fiesta!
If you’re also craving real Mexican food, you can find El Taco Mobil at the Parvis de Saint-Gilles on Thursdays and every second Sunday at the Marché des Tanneurs. I would also suggest that you keep an eye on their facebook page for menu and location updates. Buen provecho, amigos!
