BASILIC CAFE

My love for (or should I rather say addiction to?) brunch has already been documented several times on the blog! During my last visit to Lille, I discovered another great brunch spot which is definitely trying when in town: Basilic Cafe.

There are actually two Basilic Cafes in Lille, one in Rue Esquermoise just off the main square in the city centre and another one across town. I opted for the first one since it was more central (just opposite Meert and all its great desserts!) and closer to my hotel. The space looks modern and airy – maybe not too cosy but definitely stylish. The brunch buffet is all-you-can-eat and very generous: jams, warm bread and a variety of croissants and other viennoiseries, a platter of cheese, different kinds of salads and veggies, pasta and couscous, Greek yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, donuts, fresh strawberries and brownies and unlimited tea and coffee. All this plus a freshly squeezed juice for 18€ – a fair price for a meal of champions I would say. My only objection: the absence of eggs – it’s brunch after all!

An ideal place for large groups, brunch lovers and apparently, burger devotees too: every Thursday the restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet of mini burgers for just 18€ – to be tested!
